Why is Accreditation important?
Accreditation demonstrates the technical competence of laboratories offering testing, calibration, certification and inspection services against internationally recognised standards. Dealing with an accredited laboratory ensures excellent service and quality of work.
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body recognised by the British government for ISO 17025. It assesses, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection, and calibration services.
Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates a laboratory’s competence, impartiality and performance capability, and ensures that its measurements are traceable to recognised national standards held by the National Physical Laboratory or other national laboratories.
Please visit the UKAS website to see our current schedule of accreditation.
Our second principle accreditation is with the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), with which we hold accreditation to two standards — ISO 17025, covering our measurement capability, and ISO 9001 which covers our quality system.
ISO is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards, and is formed of a network of the national standards institutes of 162 countries, one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. See www.iso.org for more information.
